Abstracts

Cabernet and Merlot abstracts are paternal twins; matching but different. Much like the Cabernet and Merlot wines, both have some of the same elements and then move into their own identity. The green of the grape vine is represented in the subtle brush stroke of acrylic on canvas and the purple of the grape is stenciled over the top with a delicate floral design.

Glass Flowers

The beautiful glass sculptures of Dale Chihuly inspired the glass flower series. Vinyl was coated with acrylic paint on the underside, cut, melted and shaped revealing petals, leaves and the stems of flowers. The shiny, smooth side of the vinyl became the surface of the flower giving the look of glass. Just as nature gives us multitudes of color and texture, so do these flowers. The canvas background is textured with pumice stone, matte molding paste and acrylic paint to contrast the slick, shiny glass look of the vinyl. Glass flowers call out to be touched and explored

Abstract Sculpture on Canvas

These pieces start with a theme and a general plan of the emotion and a message I want them to convey. Color is always first and from there the art reveals itself little by little. Sometimes it takes weeks to complete each piece as I add an element, watch how it works with the rest and what that element asks me to add to it to build the final product. In essence, they paint themselves.
