Balance and connection define Cheryl Thompson’s life and art. With those two elements, the passionate creativity inside her is free to flow. Cheryl’s love of art surfaced in the sun-drenched San Diego beach community where she grew up. Yet as an adult, her career followed a hard-driving corporate track. By the 1990s, her longing for a simpler, more fulfilling life led her to leave that world behind — to develop and run a family winery in California’s Napa Valley. Surrounded by natural beauty, living life at a slower pace, Cheryl began to reconnect with her creativity. She designed and manufactured ceramic tableware items under the Atmospheres brand for many years, but the longing to develop one of a kind works and to “see” differently convinced her to start a new phase. Cheryl has put together a portfolio of color, movement and style all her own. As well as working with acrylic and oil on canvas, Cheryl has developed a technique using heated vinyl that allows her to create art unique only to her. Using a torch and heating elements, she molds the vinyl into shapes and adds elements to create a sculpture on canvas. Her florals emerge from the canvas like bold but delicate glass flowers and abstracts reveal layers of color and texture to explore. Cheryl’s art is abundant with color, texture and movement.
